Solar and storage installer Natural Solar will use Q Cells’ Q.PEAK DUO-G5 panels in the rollout of South Australia’s first multi-site, battery-powered residential development as part of the state’s home battery scheme launched in October 2018.

Constructed by DHL Projects, the developments will enable future home-owners to be among the first to take advantage of the South Australian Government’s $200 million solar battery rebate and loan scheme.

The developer expects residents will save more than $60,000 per home over the next 20 years.

Chris Williams, CEO and founder of Natural Solar, said the Q Cell panel was selected for its high efficiency and high performance.

“The Q.PEAK DUO-G5 is one of the newest and most powerful modules on the market. We were particularly impressed by its excellent performance in shaded areas and restricted roof-spaces. This, combined with a 25-year performance warranty and strong local support offered by Q Cells Australia, meant it really stood out from competitors,” Williams said.

The first development, located in the Adelaide beach-side suburb of Warradale, will be powered by a combination of solar and battery power, with a 5kW solar system and a 7.5kWh battery.

These will be installed by Natural Solar for DHL Projects, with the developer funding the entire system within the building process by claiming the Government subsidy. Buyers who purchase off the plan will receive the solar battery system as a free upgrade.

Hanwha Q Cells head of Australia Peter Bae said the company is delighted that the 325W Q.PEAK DUO G-5 panel has been selected.

“With the South Australian Government’s $200 million rebate and loan scheme for home battery systems coming online in October 2018, interest in household solar systems is booming in South Australia,” said Bae.

The first residents are expected to move in in about 10-12 weeks.
